CEO Challenge Surges Ahead at the Start
Corporate leaders wear blindfolds, share the vision
More than 20 corporate leaders are demonstrating that they have vision in the Vision 5K's first annual CEO Challenge.
Open to heads of businesses, non-profits, and other organizations, the CEO Challenge gives these remarkable men and women the chance to show their leadership outside of the office or boardroom. With the aid of a sighted guide, they run or walk the Vision 5K course while blindfolded.
"Great leaders seize upon good ideas. The CEO Challenge is one they can grab and literally run with," says Gerry DeRoche, chairman of the Vision 5K organizing committee. "We're thrilled that so many leaders have recognized this unique opportunity for themselves and their companies."
CEO Challenge participants commit to raising a minimum of $1,500 to benefit the Vision 5K's organizing charities. The top fundraising CEO will be guided by Boston Marathon legend Bill Rodgers.
Many of the companies involved are also sending teams to run and walk alongside their CEOs. Their combined support will make a tremendous difference for the tens of thousands of adults and children with visual impairment served by the charities.
David Lamere, CEO of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, will be running blindfolded with his son, Danny. "This annual event is one of many ways BNY Mellon works to make Boston a better place to live and work in," Lamere says. "Besides raising funds for a number of great organizations, the race is a great way for me and the other CEOs to lead by example—to encourage more Bostonians get involved in supporting good causes."
