Help Support the National Braille Press on Father's Day!

Hi! My name is Adam Roberge and I am 16 years old. I am a blind tenth grade student from the Exeter High School in Exeter, NH. I am participating in the Vision 5K Roadrace on June 20, 2010 at Boston College. This fundraiser is to benefit the National Braille Press as well as other charities for the Blind in the Boston area. The National Braille Press translates books from print to Braille. I first got to know about them through their Children’s Braille Book Club and Twin Vision books. As I have grown, I have been able to strive for independent braille reading and the Press is there for that too.

This is the seventh year that I have been involved with this event. In 2007, Team Harry Potter and the Walking Wizards and I raised over $20,000 for the National Braille Press and we sponsored the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling. This was extremely exciting because we got our copy of the final installment on the same day as every sighted reader in the world!! I have also been able to sponsor the printing of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett, Thomas Gets a Snowplow by the Reverend W. Awdry, Froggy’s Best Christmas by Jonathon London and You Are Special by Max Lucado.

Participating in Vision 5K gives me an annual opportunity to be a part of the blind community in New England. The Vision 5K has one guiding purpose: to give men, women, and children with visual impairment a chance to compete. Not just in a road race once a year, but everyday in life. The Vision 5K raises funds and awareness so that their sponsor organizations can work to level the playing field. Their mission, in a word, is independence.

I would really appreciate your support! Your contribution is fully tax deductible.

Thank you for your support,

Adam
